Artistic Makeup for Py1 parties

PY1 was born from the imagination of Guy Laliberté, the visionary mind behind Cirque du Soleil. It is an innovative pyramid-shaped venue that presents memorable entertainment experiences and travels the world on a global scale. Agence Thaly's makeup and airbrush team was hired to do the makeup for the PY1 parties. We take a closer look at what it's like to work as a makeup artist at a venue like PY1.

What does the make-up artist do?

Makeup artists should arrive a little early to ensure that the dressing room is prepared for the artist when they arrive. They clean and disinfect the work area, set up their makeup and make sure they have everything they need to do the character. They have their coffee and are ready to get comfortable when the performer arrives in the trailer. The makeup artist greets them, sets the tone, relaxes them, does their makeup and maintains a positive energy to help the performer get into their frame of mind.

What are the technical aspects of being a make-up artist for an event company like PY1?

The makeup profession for Py1 is a hybrid of different types of makeup. You use all the techniques you have used in your makeup career. From beauty makeup to fantasy to airbrushing. You also apply strats and use stencils for special effects. Different products such as metallic paper, foam and jewelry can be used to add to your creative makeup.

How does this style of makeup differ from beauty makeup?

You do beauty makeup but it's for a show so you apply a lot more. Sometimes the audience is close to the performers, but some are far away and you want them to see the character's features too. Shadows and lights are very important. Makeup should be amplified. Use lots of shimmer and color. And of course, eyelashes and body makeup!

Eccentric makeup

This beauty makeup has been accented with gold foil, cut in different shapes and glued to the face as well as a handmade piece.
